ABOUT Debendra Nath Laha
Debendra Nath Laha is an Indian artist specializing in Western-style painting, graduated with first-class honors from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, in 1987. Known for his realistic, figurative style infused with warmth, softness, and a hint of romanticism, his works are influenced by Impressionism. Working predominantly with oil and acrylic, Laha’s paintings have captivated collectors worldwide, becoming cherished parts of many private collections. His academic excellence is highlighted by several awards, including the Principal Award for outstanding pencil sketch and a Certificate of Merit for drawing in the Annual Exhibition of G.C.A.C. (1982), the Governor’s Award at G.C.A.C. (1987), and a Certificate of Merit in the Oriental Society’s Exhibition (1987).
Laha has actively participated in numerous exhibitions and workshops, including the Annual Exhibition of the Academy of Fine Art, Kolkata (1988), Birla Academy of Art & Culture exhibitions (2001–2004) and the Open Air Exhibition at Birla Academy (2001, 2003). His work was also showcased in the Artways Exhibition and Workshop in Visakhapatnam commemorating 150 years of Indian Railways (2003). Other notable exhibits include “Mindscape08” at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai (2008, “FREEDOM” at Gallery La Mere (2013, 2014) and many more.
